Colles External Fixation

The Colles external fixation frame is used for reducing and holding difficult colles fractures and fractures of the radius and ulna. Pins are placed using the device as a guide. Set screws lock the pins in place. Ball joints on each end allow for alignment of the bone segments using the frame as an aid. There is no need to completely align the fracture prior to application. The frame is completely assembled by the manufacturer. There are no loose parts. Distraction may be effected by rotation of a wheel. A lock holds the position. The ball joints can be loosened, to allow wrist movement, while length is held. Two or three pins may be placed in each bone segment. Either 2.5 or 3 mm pins may be used. Multiple frames may be used together for increased rigidity for foream fractures.
