The Secure blood gas safety syringe protects technicians from needle stick injuries. In addition it has an attached seal to prevent air contamination of the sample. The needle is advanced just prior to sample withdrawal. The sample taken. By simply withdrawing the syringe within the guard, the needle is locked and the sample sealed. This step can be performed with one hand while pressure is applied to the puncture site. For analyses, the standard blood gas syringe is rotated free from the needle at the luer lock joint. Standard technique is used for the analyses. The needle remains locked within the guard for safe disposal.
